Problem of the Week #2: Money Gram

A college student sent a telegram home to his parents asking for more money. If each different letter represents different number, how much money was the student asking for?

SEND + MORE = MONEY

First name, last initial, and period for sign-in.

well basically i think he was just asking for more money because if each letter represents a different amount of money and both the m are the same so say they were 18 then the both m's are 18 so therefore he is asking for either more money or 18 dollars

p.s you dont really know how much he or she is asking for but you never know he migh be asking for 1 billion dollas you never know well lots of love lisa p6

I first Assigned the letters M O N E Y each a number:

M=5 O=6 N=3 E=2 Y=8 TOTAL:24

Then I filled in these numbers for the letters given in the equation:

S E=2 N=3 D + M=5 O=6 R E=2 TOTAL: 18

Then I assigned different numbers to S,D, and R that would combined equal 6.

Here is my equation:
S=1 E=2 N=3 D=2 + M=5 O=6 R=3 E=2
EQUALS:
M=5 O=6 N=3 E=2 Y=8 He asked for $24.00

M=6 N=4 O=3 D=1 R=2 E=7 Y=8 S=9

Therefore multiply money. M*0*N*E*Y
And you get 4,032 which is just enough to cover the important things books, food, money for class and most important the cell phone bill.

This was a tough one. The amount the student needs is $10, 652. Each letter represents a number: S=9, E=5, N=6, D=7, M=1, O=0, R=8, Y=2.
